Laken Snelling, the former University of Kentucky stunt team member accused of killing her newborn, arrived in court this morning to enter her plea in the case. Snelling’s attorney pleaded not guilty on her behalf on Friday, April 10. The judge then scheduled Snelling’s pre-trial hearing for May 14 followed by a status hearing on June 12. On August 20, 2025, Lexington police responded to a report of an unresponsive infant. The baby boy was pronounced dead at the scene after the child was found in a closet, wrapped in a towel and placed inside a trash bag, according to court records. On March 10, WKYT reported that the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the infant was born alive and stated the cause of death being asphyxiation by undetermined means. Four days later, Snelling was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence, concealing the birth of an infant and abuse of a corpse. At the time, she was enrolled at the University of Kentucky and a member of their stunt team, but after her arrest, she withdrew from school. However, last month, a grand jury added a manslaughter charge. “They were given the information about homicide, the four levels of homicide and then deliberated and decided that manslaughter first degree was the charge that should come out of the grand jury,” Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney Kimberly Baird said in a statement to WKYT at the time. Snelling has remained on house arrest since September 2025.
