‘Technically Alive’: Jimmy Kimmel Interrupts Vacation To Troll Mitch McConnell Yet Again

Jimmy Kimmel isn’t letting his break from TV stop him from trolling Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) over his latest health update. McConnell — in a statement from his office shared Monday, over six weeks since he was hospitalized last month — said he has yet to be “medically cleared” to leave a rehabilitation facility and return to work after a fall and a subsequent “mild case of pneumonia” that led to his hospitalization. As in a similar update earlier this month, his office included a picture of the senator sitting in a chair and cracking a faint smile while his wife, Elaine Chao, stands at his side. Kimmel, who has been on his annual summer vacation for nearly as long as McConnell has been away from the Senate, shared an Instagram post in which his face is edited onto Chao’s body. “For those asking, Mitch and I are feeling better, stronger, sexier and still technically alive every day!” wrote Kimmel, who had spoofed the senator’s earlier update by editing his face onto McConnell’s body. The latest “proof of life” snap from McConnell’s office comes amid intense speculation surrounding the senator’s health, with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) demanding in a letter that he verbally address constituents and provide proof of his “capacity to serve, or resign” amid his absence from the upper chamber. Beshear sent a copy of the letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), whose office claimed he “had a lengthy and substantive conversation” with McConnell over the phone earlier this month. Beshear shared another letter with Thune calling on him to “fully investigate” the senator’s condition if he’s “unwilling to voluntarily show that he still has the capacity to serve.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
