This is actually the show that inspired this list! It’s a new sitcom following five young professionals living in New York City. It’s very Friends-coded, with the boys and girls living right across the hall from each other and harboring crushes on each other. At first, I was iffy, but toward the end, I was seriously hooked. It felt fresh, relevant to the struggles our generation faces today, and it was genuinely hilarious.

I will say the group dynamic definitely needs to develop a bit more, as some of the characters barely interacted, but I think given time and more seasons, it will become a top contender for the sitcom hall of fame.

Now, ignoring some of the problematic actors, this show is unquestionably one of my all-time favorites! My dad used to watch this all the time when I was growing up and constantly said it reminded him of his own teenage years. It follows a group of teenagers in Wisconsin in the ’70s. From bad-boy Hyde to lovable, goofy Eric to self-absorbed Jackie, this show has every stereotype covered.

The comedy is top-tier (specifically from Eric and Kelso), and it has me rolling on the floor every time I watch. I could quote this show like no other, and I think that is the #1 sign of a great show.

This is a deep cut, but I love it so much! It aired on ABC Family for six seasons and is essentially a reboot of Three Men and a Baby. Ben is a bartender in NYC living with his best friend and older brother when, all of a sudden, a baby is left on his doorstep from a one-night stand. It follows the boys, the girl next door (Riley), and Ben’s mother (Bonnie) as they all help take care of the baby. While it initially starts centered around the infant, all the characters eventually get their own storylines and stand on their own.

Tucker and Bonnie are the funniest people on this show, and their dynamic alone could carry the whole series. Plus, you have a fun love triangle between Ben, Riley, and Ben’s brother, Danny (who, did I mention, is a hot HOCKEY player?!!?). I recommend this sitcom to everyone because it is so underrated—and also because I need more people to experience Danny Wheeler.

I honestly was iffy about including this one! But I figured it is super popular, and everyone loves it, so I just had to. The Big Bang Theory follows two physicists, Sheldon and Leonard, who live across the hall from a hot waitress, Penny. Leonard has a crush on her, and with the help of his other friends, Raj and Howard, they constantly try to help Leonard win her over. Sheldon is also just his own level of quirky that annoys the hell out of the group.

Now, I do like this show a lot, but I think it is best suited for anyone who loves science, comics, nerdy jokes, and more.

Another newbie hits the list! This show just came out last year and follows a group of young millennials living together in New York. And they aren't just living together—they are living in Samir’s parents' house while they are on an RV trip. If that does not SCREAM "millennial," I don’t know what does.

This show was quirky, funny, and felt a bit too real to me as a millennial. The struggles they go through—not feeling like adults, just "grown-up kids"—really spoke to me. Samir not knowing his Social Security number, Billie visiting her old high school often, Anton being too trusting of everyone—it is exactly what our generation is going through, and they poked fun at it so effortlessly.

They just got renewed for Season 2, and I am so excited for what comes next!

This is a controversial one! How I Met Your Mother follows Ted as he tells his children the story of how he met their mother. However, the story ends up focusing more on Ted’s friendships with Lily, Marshall, Barney, and Robin. Barney is played by the one and only Neil Patrick Harris, who is the only person allowed to play such a womanizing player.

The comedy is mixed with the heart of Ted trying to find love (and failing constantly). Plus, we get so many heart-wrenching moments from the other characters (the episode about Marshall’s dad still makes me cry every time). They really knew how to take intense moments and weave comedy into them seamlessly.

I love a lot about this show, but I think the whole world can agree that the ending SUCKED!

New Girl is one of my all-time favorites (and I think the world agrees!). This show follows Jess as she moves into a loft with three men (Coach, Schmidt, and Nick) after a devastating breakup. Coach is replaced by Winston after the pilot, but Coach eventually comes back in Season 3. Jess is initially the weird, quirky girl who annoys the boys, but they all become great friends over the course of the show.

I will say it took me a while to get into this show, as Jess annoyed the hell out of me in Season 1. But once I pushed through, I realized how incredible the other characters are. 

If you haven’t seen this show yet, put everything down and watch it IMMEDIATELY.

And finally... FRIENDS! This one is obvious, and I think it set the precedent for all the others. It is a classic sitcom following a group of six friends living in New York City. They deal with relationship drama, work problems, and family troubles, and are always there for each other through it all. It was also a show where they literally had WHOLE episodes that were just the cast in the apartments (no extras, different sets, etc.), and the cast held their own. Name another show that could do that!

This is a show that will forever be enshrined in the hall of fame as one of the best sitcoms.
