(NewsNation) — A famous eagle's health is improving after she was attacked by two eagles earlier this month, sparking widespread concern.

Jackie the bald eagle has captured the hearts of Americans for years, along with her partner Shadow, because their nest in Southern California is livestreamed by the environmental organization Friends of Big Bear Valley. Media manager Jennifer Voisard told NewsNation on Friday that Jackie's condition is headed "in the right direction" following the attack.

"She's feisty, she's been perching and standing, able to eat … with some assistance," Voisard said, adding that those are all positive signs.

Voisard told NewsNation earlier in the week that livestream viewers kept asking about Jackie because she hadn't been seen in the nest since July 12.

A few days later, the organization heard reports of an adult bald eagle at a nearby park that had been fighting with younger eagles. The eagle, later identified as Jackie, was then found grounded and unable to fly.

Voisard confirmed Friday that Jackie was fending off two subadults and had been "vulnerable" to the attacks because she was dealing with anemia, was starving, was underweight and had some inflammation affecting her kidneys.

Jackie is being treated at Ojai Raptor Center, and received a successful life-saving blood transfusion this week, NewsNation local affiliate KTLA reported.

Voisard said Jackie still has anemia and that doctors are "working to try and figure out what's causing that so they can treat her." She added that Jackie doesn't have cancer or lead poisoning.
