Rep. Who Replaced Marjorie Taylor Greene Makes All Kinds Of Mistakes In Hotel AC Rant

Rep. Clay Fuller (R-Ga.), who recently won a special election to replace the departed Marjorie Taylor Greene, seems to have inherited her knack for making news. And not always the good kind. (Watch the video below.) In a rant (or major trolling job) on X Sunday griping about an air conditioner that shut off at a Maryland hotel while he slept, the Donald Trump-endorsed lawmaker falsely asserted that Georgia is named for George Washington (it’s named for King George II) and that Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. was born there (he’s from Venezuela). He also erroneously called Maryland “newer to the union” (it’s one of the 13 original colonies) and appeared to taunt the University of Maryland for never winning an SEC title (it’s a member of the Big Ten conference after being in the ACC for many years) and for not having a football team at all (it does). He also said that if University of Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton were born in Maryland, “he’d play some fake sport like lacrosse.” Fuller got agitated by waking up in a Maryland hotel room that he said was too hot. He said he was then informed by the front desk that the motion-sensor air conditioning was shut off at night “because of an AOC Green New Deal thing.” While there may be a hotel or regional policy in place, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s environmental initiative was never passed. Fuller emphasized Georgia’s superiority and freedom in his gripe to perhaps assert why the AC is on at all times at inns in the Peach State. (Not true either, apparently.) “AC has saved billions of lives,” he said. “Socialism has killed billions of lives. So as we celebrate our 250th anniversary, let’s not be like Europe, Maryland. Let’s double down on freedom. .. and let’s double down on being awesome.” Just stayed at a hotel in Maryland for work.Turns out their AC units shut off while you sleep as part of some new woke Green New Deal nonsense. It's a terrible policy that's making their state like Europe.Just one more example of why they've never won an SEC Championship. pic.twitter.com/iihDbQAzFk A spokesperson told USA Today on Monday that the clip is “obviously satirical,” but we did a little research anyway. Some hotels do use movement detectors to govern AC usage ― either to shut them off or revert to a default temperature when someone is not in the room or perhaps when the guest is sleeping. It turns out that at least one hotel in Fuller’s very own Georgia also uses sensors. The Holiday Inn Express in Lavonia said that it, like others in the IHG hotel family that includes Crowne Plaza and Kimpton, uses motion sensors to “save energy.” (HuffPost has reached out to IHG for confirmation.) The Lavonia hotel keeps its default at 70 degrees, the employee said, and guests can have that restriction removed. Fuller, who did not reveal in the video where he stayed, said his hotel also allowed him to have the setting changed. As for the multitude of his other apparent mistakes (which seem to be just bad jokes), we’re reaching out to Fuller’s office for comment.
