Just, take a look — how many snakes do you see?

The picture shows at least eight Garter snakes.

The Summit Metro Parks shared images that they called an “amazing find.” According to a post on the park’s Facebook page, a park technician and visitor were in the “right place at the right time” to spot the group of snakes emerging from the ground.

Officials explained in the post: “Garter snakes group together in a small space called a ‘hibernaculum’ for winter. When conditions are right in spring, they emerge en masse.”

This lucky observation was even graced by a ladybug, pointed out park officials.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Garter snakes, sometimes called garden snakes, are probably the most widely known of all Ohio snakes. They’re not venomous and are probably more scared of you than you are of them.

Spring is peak breeding season for many snake species in Ohio. A couple years ago, FOX 8 viewers spotted a snarl of snakes on the shores of Lake Erie which experts identified as a mating ball.
