Miles Young, 15, of Springfield, was shot and killed on Thursday, March 12, in what investigators believe was a premeditated ambush, according to a probable cause statement from the Green County Sheriff’s Office obtained by PEOPLE. On March 31, Yefry Archaga, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the deadly incident, according to online court records. Another teen, Praize King, 18, was previously arrested on March 18, and charged with the same offenses in connection with Young's death. According to the probable cause statement, on the night of March 12, a female identified only as Juvenile Suspect 1 picked up Young in a black Mercedes after “providing him with the belief the two would be having sexual intercourse.” Before the teen identified as J1 met Young, she, Archaga and others drove around and discussed “setting up” Young, the probable cause statement alleges. When she arrived to pick up Young, two of his friends, identified as witnesses in the court records, told him not to go with her because they sensed it was a “set-up,” the statement alleges. The witnesses told Young that the girl had “previously mentioned a dislike for him” and that she blamed Young for the death of a victim in a 2025 homicide case. According to documents obtained by the Springfield Daily Citizen, Young was supposed to testify in a 2025 homicide case. While Young and the girl drove, another car, with Archaga inside, blocked the road, forcing the Mercedes to stop. Young got out of the car and tried to flee. But according to a witness, Archaga, who was wearing a black ski mask and carried a “Glock-style pistol," and another teen, identified as Suspect 1, chased Young, as one of them yelled, “Don’t run now!” while they ran after him, according to the probable cause statement. A witness who was on the phone with Young as he ran heard gunshots, then he heard him fall to the ground and then cry out, “I just don’t wanna die,” the statement alleges. Young sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead when he was later taken to a hospital. After a two-week search, Archaga was arrested on March 31 in Webb City. In a GoFundMe set up to help defray funeral costs, the organizer wrote that Young “had a beautiful heart, was full of life, and always showed care for others.” Archaga is being held without bond and is on a federal immigration detainer, according to online jail records. King is also being held without bond. Their attorneys did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. Read the original article on People
