Beloved soda from the 1960s returning to store shelves

A soda popular in the 1960s that became hard to find for years is slowly making its way back to shelves across the U.S. According to All Recipes, Tahitian Treat Fruit Punch Soda has been spotted at Dollar General and Walmart stores in recent weeks. The soda brand debuted in 1964 and is a caffeine-free, fruit punch flavored beverage. It was originally marketed as Canada Dry Tahitian Treat. The brand is now owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, which appears to be reintroducing the drink to customers. While the beverage was never discontinued, only limited quantities have been available for many years, making it a rare soda to find. Now that it’s gradually returning to shelves, some fans say they’ve been able to find it regularly for a few weeks. However, many pop lovers are still having to travel to find it in person or buy the drink on the secondary market. A commenter on a Reddit post celebrating the soda’s return said they drove over an hour to buy three 12-packs of the drink. Because it’s not widely available, resellers have started posting cases and individual cans or bottles at huge markups. A listing that ended Sunday, March 1, showed a single 12-pack sold for $31.99. Other listings that haven’t ended show cases priced as low as $25 each and up to $34. For reference, a 12-pack case is listed on the Dollar General website for $8.75. Luckily, it appears more stores are starting to carry the soda as Kroger and Hy-Vee grocery stores are also advertising having the beverage in stock. It is unclear if Tahitian Treat Fruit Punch Soda is back permanently or if it is a limited time release. Read the original article on mlive.com. Add mlive.com as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
